ON THE TOWN: Divas at the Doubletree

"Divas at the Doubletree" saw more than 600 women attend this wild and fun party at Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort. The only men allowed were the waiters and uniformed officers from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Santa Barbara Police, Fire and Sheriff departments. They escorted the women from the parking lot in limos, around the corner to the front of the rotunda and up the red carpet.

Dawn Schroeder, founder of Momentum 4 Life, Debby Davison, KEYT anchor, and Marcella Young, from left, co-chairwomen for the women-only party to benefit the Breast Resource Center of Santa Barbara.

The unusual party was produced by Momentum 4 Life to benefit the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara. Momentum 4 Life was founded by Dawn Schroeder, who told me, "Last year, in our group of almost 100 women, seven of them discovered they had breast cancer. This money raised for the resource center will be used to provide for the needs of women (with breast cancer) that insurance does not cover."

Momentum 4 Life encourages women to understand the value of caring for themselves with physical exercise, setting goals of well-being and developing a healthy lifestyle.

At the party, there were intimate settings with sofas and coffee tables to gather and chat. There were many different booths, among them tarot card readings by Susanna Laborin, samples of Nora's Skin Care products, massages by Alison Jordan and Amy Mah, palm readers Dollyia and Madame Rosinka, lingerie fit expert Lisa Cole, nutrition products by Susan McIntire, chocolate cake samples (wow!) and beauty products to sample.

Co-chairwomen for the inventive benefit were KEYT anchor Debby Davison, Marcella Young and founder Dawn Schroeder along with event designer volunteer Trish Fountaine. They styled the party after the book "The Red Tent," believing women can have a special relationship together.

Marie Ann Strait was there and Dr. Liza Belkin-Presser, Alix Rabinowitz, Jill Levinson, all trying the temporary glitter tattoos. Also there were Christine Dahl, Stephanie Slosser, Betsy Drucker, Nancy Glasman, Danielle Stone, Patty Engel, Juli Welsh, Joelle Dohrman, Caroline Grange, Kathleen Gardella, Susanne Illgen and Joanie Myers.

Kim Curtis and Teri Gaither offered tastes of scrumptious chocolate cakes at the "Divas at the Doubletree" benefit produced by Momentum 4 Life to benefit the Breast Resource Center of Santa Barbara. The cakes can be ordered and delivered in Santa Barbara from the Chocolate Cake Café.

The most fun of all was the karaoke while all the women danced together. "Divas at the Doubletree" will happen again next year, so, ladies, be there!
