More than 40 young kids, ranging in age from 5
to 12, had the run of San Marcos High School during the
recent Momentum 4 Life Kids Triathlon.
The event culiminated a two-week camp and included four
laps in the Royals' pool, a four-loop bike ride around the
San Marcos parking lot, and a four-lap run around the Valley
Stadium track.
Parker Funk, 11, won the race.
"Our focus with the camp, though, was really about finishing,
not competing," said Marcie Kjoller, the camp director.
"All the children who started the race finished the race.
They all feel like champions and are eager to race again.
"It was a truly wonderful event, with over 40 children
being asked to challenge themselves for two weeks, and all
of them embracing the challenge."
Meanwhile, Franziska Barthel secures her bicycle helmet
and runs to her bike for the second leg of the triathlon.
